Bill & Bens

A Crow Road institution with a name nobody under forty gets any more.

The verdict

Crow Road running north from Broomhill to Anniesland is one of those Glasgow arteries lined with businesses that have simply always been there, and Bill & Bens belongs to that category. It is an unglamorous, well-used local florist serving a large residential catchment, and it has the enormous practical advantage of being on a road you can actually stop on.

The offer is traditional: bouquets, baskets, sympathy tributes, seasonal stock. The style is high-street rather than editorial. What you are buying is a shop that knows its regulars, prices sensibly, and has enough turnover that the buckets are not full of last week's chrysanthemums. Ordering is by phone or in person; there is no meaningful online storefront.

Best for

Anyone in Jordanhill, Broomhill or Knightswood who wants a good bunch without a trip into town.

What I would order

Something in season and generous rather than a signature arrangement.

Worth knowing

No online ordering, and directory hours vary. Phone first.

Named for a children's television gardening duo, and about as unpretentious as that suggests.

Who it is not for

Design-led gifting and anything you need to arrange from a distance.

How it compares

Petals, further down the same road at Broomhill Cross, is the more central version of the same proposition.

Getting there

Crow Road, with Jordanhill rail station nearby and genuinely available street parking.
