The verdict

There is a category of florist that the design magazines never write about and that keeps most of the flowers in most of the homes in this city: the affordable neighbourhood shop. Belle Fiori, out at the far western end of Great Western Road near Anniesland Cross, is a good example of it. The listings and its own positioning lean heavily on value. Everyday flowers, delivery, get-well and sympathy work, without the studio markup.

Do not expect avant-garde design. Expect a decent mixed bouquet for a fair price, a shop that knows the local hospitals and care homes, and delivery that covers the north-west of the city properly. In a list dominated by West End boutiques it is worth saying plainly: for the majority of flower purchases most people actually make, this model is the right one.

Best for

Get-well flowers, hospital and care-home deliveries, and the mid-week bunch that is not marking anything.

What I would order

A mixed seasonal bouquet at the mid price point. Going cheaper here is a false economy; going dearer misses the point of the shop.

Worth knowing

Light online presence. This is a phone-and-counter business.

The bunch you can afford to buy for no reason at all.

Who it is not for

Weddings with a specific aesthetic, or anyone who wants to order online at midnight.

How it compares

If you are already heading into town, Bill & Bens covers the same kind of everyday buying a mile south.

Getting there

Near Anniesland Cross, with Anniesland rail station and heavy bus coverage. Easy parking compared with the inner West End.
