Peony Roses Flower Shop

A flower shop on Glasgow's most over-described street, doing something quietly useful.

The verdict

The Finnieston strip of Argyle Street has been written about to exhaustion as a restaurant destination, and the retail that has survived alongside it tends to be sharp about what the crowd actually needs. Peony Roses occupies exactly that niche: a compact flower shop on a street full of people about to arrive somewhere and realising they are empty-handed.

The range is focused rather than encyclopaedic. Hand-tied bouquets and seasonal stems, with the roses and peonies the name promises when the season allows. It is a shop with a specific and unglamorous job, and it does that job on the right street. Ordering is counter-and-phone; there is no significant online storefront.

Best for

Pre-dinner flowers in Finnieston; anything on the Argyle Street corridor west of the motorway.

What I would order

Roses done properly, or whatever peony equivalent is in season. Playing to the name is the right call here.

Worth knowing

Very limited online information. Treat published hours with caution and ring ahead.

Finnieston has forty restaurants and one obvious place to buy flowers before dinner at any of them.

Who it is not for

Weddings, funerals at scale, or ordering from another city.

How it compares

Jade Florist covers the neighbouring stretch of the city centre and is better set up for weekday office deliveries.

Getting there

Argyle Street in Finnieston, walking distance from Exhibition Centre rail station and the SEC.
